Moving an entire Skiis & Biikes store 288m across the street, no problem right?
Not quite…
After 25 years, 1 month, and 2 days in a 23,000 square foot store you can imagine we’d have a ton of stuff to move. Imagine moving the contents of your home after living in it for 25 years – definitely a daunting task. If you’re fortunate enough to have 23,000 square foot home, you can commiserate.
Our Mississauga store was located at 1970 Dundas Street and we were on our way to 1945 Dundas Street. We took over the new location on Nov 16 so we started packing the endless racks of product that seemed to be stashed in every nook and cranny around the store and warehouse.
I became somewhat of a slave-driver, having staff working from 5am to 1am every day leading up to the move. I was there almost all of that time. 18 days later on Sunday December 4th at 5pm. We were ready to shut down the old store and move in to our new digs.
Here’s how we did it:
3 trucks needed to haul all the stuff
113 staff, friends, customers, and family who came out to lend a hand
18 pizzas to feed the crew
25 Subway sandwiches to balance out the pizza
168 drinks to keep our helpers hydrated
81,253 pieces of inventory
16,521 pieces of junk we thought might be useful
6 hours later, we were fully operational at our new 1945 Dundas Street location.
The next morning, the store looked great and we were open for business at 10am.
