Firstly
I would like to say YES YOU NEED A HELMET!!!!
The crash or accident only happens once ……. enough
said? Now that we have that out of the way, the next issue
is which helmet to choose? (note: it’s a law for cyclists
under the age of 16 to wear a helmet or face a possible $60.00
fine)
Helmets choice is simple… if you focus on what is important
to you. Things to take into account: how often, how long and
what type of riding will you’ll be doing? For me it
is important to be comfortable and have good ventilation;
when I go riding I generally work up a good sweat and like
to be as cool and comfortable as possible.
Helmet technology has come a long way in recent years, not
only in protection, but also in comfort and performance. Both
are very important for your safety and happiness on your ride.
The biggest changes in helmets are the construction of the
shells. Shells are lighter and stronger with the invention
of integrated shells or “in-molding.” This allows
manufacturers to create a stronger safer helmet that has larger
vents without compromising safety and strength. Helmets now
have significantly improved retention systems. You no longer
have to rely only on the straps to hold your helmet to your
head, instead helmets are secured to your melon by easy-to-use,
adjustable fit-systems.
Helmets are available in a wide variety of shapes, colours,
styles and prices. At Skiis & Biikes we are able to find
a helmet that satisfies all your specific needs whether it’s
your first helmet, or your race-day-go-fast accessory. Come
into Skiis & Biikes and let our friendly talented staff
fit you with a helmet that you’re sure to love. |
