So here we are, mid-summer has arrived and bike races are popping up all over the place. The Tour de France is going full force, and what better way to get a little taste of a road race than the Gastown Grand Prix?
For starters, I didn't know a whole lot about the race going into it, but I have to say it was a great atmosphere that got me fairly stoked. The weather was perfect and an afternoon of cycling, watching a race and spending some quality time with bike tech Erwan Fresq and bike fitter Ian Paterson was nothing short of awesome.
Without further adieu, here are some images!
All the beautiful Vancouverites lined up to watch the road race.
Some real fast ladies.
Our humble bikes.
Quick rest stop at Gringo's between races.
A little bit of Erwan sharing a story or two with the group.
Erwan doesn't only have skills in the bike shop, he makes a mean loaf of bread no one can resist.
Ian the bike fitter, and model hopeful.
Back to the men's race with a few of speedy gentlemen.
Ian wishes he was King of the Mountain with those polkadots. Check out our racing jersey dictionary post for more info.
All in all, after this little excursion I was inspired to get up, get out and get on to riding some bikes! The weather's amazing, and there's nothing better than riding bikes around this beautiful city with your friends. If you want to get in on the fun, come on in, and one of these maniacs will help you get set up with a bike; speedy, cruisy or otherwise.
